built in the community, is located at Long Wharf in Cambridge.

BROOKS
BARREL COMPANY
One of the last remaining slack cooperages now operating
in America, since 1950. The operation begins with pine
logs from local woods which are hand-crafted into planters,
kegs and barrels. Tours available by appointment
BLACKWATER
NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
Main entrance on Key Wallace Drive.
The refuge is home to many species of animals. The rich
tidal marsh and mixed woodland hold endangered animals
such as the Delmarva fox squirrel and a large population
of bald eagles. Blackwater is the chief wintering home
for waterfowl using the Atlantic flyways. Canada geese
and over twenty duck species can be found in large concentrations
from October to March. Osprey, great blue herons, swans,
hawks, owls, muskrat, and many varieties of songbirds
are also among the residents. There are driving, walking,
and biking trails through the refuge, plus a Visitor's
Center containing exhibits and films.The Blackwater National
Wildlife Refuge is close to many of the fishing communities
of South Dorchester, where the landscape is dotted with
boats tied to piers, neatly stacked crab pots, seafood
packing houses and miles of wetlands, marsh and shoreline.
The Visitor's Center is open 8 - 4 Monday through Friday
and 9 - 5 Saturday and Sunday. The Wildlife Drive and
outdoor facilities are open daily, dawn to dusk (year
round).
